SERVICE INFORMATION

ISC PLATING is in the service business of industrial hard chrome plating. Most single pieces or small parts can be plated overnight. When sending parts or requesting a quote, please provide a print or mark the area to be plated. Indicate both the thickness and diameter dimensions regarding the deposit required. Also, indicate finish dimension. We normally coat 0.00015” to 0.0025” thick over finish size when parts are to be ground after plating.

WHAT IS ELECTROLESS NICKEL?

Electroless nickel deposits are considered functional coatings and are not usually used for decorative purposes. They are used to improve the surface properties. Mainly: 1) corrosion resistance, 2) wear resistance, 3) hardness, 4) lubricity, and 5) solderability. The brightness and reflectivity of electroless nickel can vary depending on the bath formulation and substrate of the part plated.  Generally, the appearance of  electroless nickel is similar to that of electrodeposited nickel.

Electroless nickel plating, or autocatalytic nickel, does not use electrical current. Deposition occurs in an aqueous solution; and is the result of a chemical reaction on the surface of the part, which causes deposition of the nickel and phosphorus alloy. Since all surfaces wetted by the nickel bath are plated, the deposit thickness is quite uniform, even on parts with a complex shapes and geometries. Sharp edges, deep recesses and blind holes are plated to a uniform thickness. Generally deposit thicknesses range from 0.0001 – 0.005”.

The main industries that use electroless nickel are 1) electronics and computers, 2) automotive, 3) oil and chemical, 4) machinery, and 5) aerospace.
